LOCATION
Any visitor to Torrevieja is bound to visit the harbour area with it's numerous restaurants, tapas bars and shops. The fish restaurants are a must as the fish is fresh in from the local fishing boats.
Torrevieja has many attractive parks, gardens and squares such as the Paraje Natural Municipal Molino del Agua and the Park of Nations where you can sit down and just relax under the shade.

For sightseeing in Torrevieja you can enjoy the harbour, the fish market, the Church of La Inmaculata Conception, the Iglesia de Nuestra Senora del Rosario, tour of the S-61 Delfin submarine and the museum of sea and salt.

Torrevieja is about 50 kilometers south of Alicante airport and is right on the coast just south of the other large resort of Guardamar del Segura.
To the south of the resort you will find the popular tourist resorts of Cabo Roig, Campoamor and La Zenia.
Murcia Airport (San Javier) at a distance of thirty six kilometres to the south of the resort provides a further gateway for tourists, locals and expats and has a journey time of approximately thirty minutes by car.
Torrevieja is primarily as self catering tourist resort which means that the majority of its visitors have booked villas and apartments as their accommodation for the duration of their stay.

For accommodation, there are some very good three star hotels such as the Torre Joven Hotel, and the Cabo Cervera Hotel for those holidaymakers who prefer the personal touches and services. Rates start from as little as €22 per person a day in the low season.

Torrevieja literally translates as Torre Vieja which means the Old Tower, used to be a tiny fishing village (like many of the towns on the Costa Blanca) but it has witnessed a huge explosion in size and population in recent times - most of which is from the huge numbers of people moving to Torrevieja from Northern Europe or buying holiday homes in the area.

Torrevieja is surrounded by the salt lakes of the Laguna Salada de la Mata and the Laguna Salada de Torrevieja and as a result the climate is meant to be very healthy especially for people with arthritus.
The salt lakes are protected and form a natural habitat for numerous protected species of bird such as the greater Flamingo and Montagu's harrier. The salt is also commercially extracted providing one of the Torrevieja's main industries.

The indoor market offers fish, meat and fresh vegetables. Make sure you visit the local market selling fresh fruits and vegetables as well as other locally-made goods and produce - market day in Torrevieja is on a Friday. Torrevieja is also home to the Habaneras Shopping Centre and a 24 hr Carrefour.

There are more than a hundred bars with the majority located in the El Baluarte area in the La Punta district, which attracts thousands of visitors every year as the place to enjoy the nightlife of Torrevieja. Unfortunately the Pacha nightclubs is now closed and known as Oz instead.

Torrevieja has two water parks and a large indoor sports centre with an Olympic sized swimming pool.
Aquopolis is the main water park to visit and is open from late May until the end of September.
At Aquopolis it is all about riding the flumes and enjoying a day of water fun.
Aquapark Flamingo opens annually early June and rates are very reasonable starting at €9.20 for children, €11.2 for adults and children under the age of four go free.

One of the most important reasons why families with children choose Torrevieja as their annual summer holiday destination is of course the Torrevieja beaches. Torrevieja has over twenty kilometres of white sandy beaches most of which have first class services and amentities such as play areas for children, showers, toilets, first aid posts and life guards.
Torrevieja beaches worth visiting include the Playa de los Naufragos, Playa de Acequion, the main Torrevieja beach the Paseo de Maritimo Juan Aparicio, the Playa del Cura, Playa de Los Locos, the Cala Torrevieja and the Playa de la Mata.

The Southern Costa Blanca is well known for its golf courses and although there are no golf courses in the resort itself, there are five golf courses in close proximity which are the La Finca Golf Course in Algorfa, the Club La Marquesa Golf Course in Ciudad Quesada to the north of Torrevieja.
The Villamartin Golf Course in Villamartin, the Las Ramblas Golf Course and the Real Club de Golf Campoamar can be found to the south of the resort.
